PARK(ing) Spot

[split]

In collaboration with local architect, Dennis King O’Kelly, we have designed a proposal to occupy a parking spot on our little stretch of Jones. Using reclaimed lumber, an enlarged outdoor furniture piece is constructed to allow pedestrian use of the street space. This project is inspired by the San Francisco’s Pavements to Parks initiative and in connection with International Park(ing) Day and Architecture in the City Month.

Originally invented in 2005 by Rebar, a San Francisco-based art and design studio, PARK(ing) Day challenges people to rethink the way streets are used and reinforces the need for broad-based changes to urban infrastructure.
