At Ramon’s Tailor
Ramon’s Tailor is proud to announce its latest show, Slide Carousel, a large-scale installation by artist Robin Hill. Hill will claim the space and blanket the walls with hundreds of graphite rubbings that she has obsessively taken from a singular slide carousel. Meet the artist during the opening reception and be confronted with the repetition and sheer magnitude of her drawings which will be layered to completely encapsulate our small space.
This latest work represents a new foray into drawing and perhaps a natural segue from her sculptural work. Hill has wrapped, folded and pressed paper around the carousel’s contours before rubbing it with graphite. When the paper is peeled off the carousel and flattened, the image is that of a sun with stylized rays, resolving into an outline of points, numbers and graphite haze. The resulting drawing ultimately maintains some dimension and becomes a casting of this iconic three-dimensional object.
